This stylish and sophisticated new look vase is also fun and contemporary. Created by D3 Design the vase is for single flowers only, such as gerberas and roses.

Product designer and director of D3 Design, Mr David Francis, says it is the company’s proactive approach to plant well-being that makes the Australian designed vase deferens® unique and ultimately effective in reducing trauma to cut flowers...

“After extensive testing in the D3Design laboratories it was found that flowers displayed in vase deferens® were twenty percent happier when compared to those displayed in conventional vases.

“The vase gives the flower the freedom to move and sway, it lets it suck up water in the way nature intended. It works like a little flower aqualung and allows a flower to stand on its own instead of in overcrowded bunches, thus creating a happier environment for the flower,” said Francis.

He says key elements of the design were to create:

• a vase that doesn’t look like a vase

• a vase that works in a new way

• a vase with a bit of theatre and movement

• a vase that lets the flower suck water up it’s stem like it does in the real world

• a vase that you can fill and empty just by squeezing

• a vase that you can carry around the room with you and that you can’t knock over

• in short, a vase with a difference

vase deferens® is the second in a series of products launched under the mint label.

Lightweight materials, as the name suggests, simply refers to materials that are light in weight. However, whilst there are many materials that may be deemed light (tissue paper, for instance), the category of lightweight materials we will look at here refers to those that are of high strength for their weight (often referred to as the strength-to-weight ratio), or have another important property relative to their weight (such as toughness).
