Their focus is to give new life to textile scraps and to raise environmental awareness. Their custom designed Unusual Chair is designed to “inspire and create a solution for the world of tomorrow”. The Unusual Chair frame is made from oak or walnut.

By reapplying textile leftovers and overstocked work clothing including denim jeans and work wear from manufacturers and fashion brands into high-quality furniture, we adapt work clothing to become a tailor-made chair,” says Dennis Teeuw.

The Rezign range extends beyond denim chairs, with tables, bar stools and interior accessories made from flax, hemp, jute coffee bags, military workwear, suits, hospital clothing, car seat upholstery and waste textiles. Clothing and bags are shredded to a fine pulp, formed into flat sheets then compressed with a biodegradable binding material into a chair seat or back rest.

PLANQ say their range is about “sustainable contemporary design”. Their chair seats can be recycled at the end of their lifecycle by reforming them into new products, including by 3D Printing.

A recent project for Tommy Hilfiger shows their chairs made from overstock Tommy Hilfiger jeans, for their headquarters in Amsterdam.

Founded by Kortenhorst, Teeuw and Teeuw, PLANQ is a Netherlands certified Sustainable Young 100 Innovator studio, recognised for merging sustainable innovation and environmental awareness in their designs and products.
