Is it a basket? Is it a tray? Yes! In fact, it’s even more than that. It’s a basket, a tray, a low table, two cushions, a seat and a footrest all in one.

It’s Mister T, to be precise, a multifunctional piece of furniture with all of the these elements in a single compact unit.

Mister T is the brainchild of Paris-based designer Antoine Lesur, commissioned by French firm Oxyo.

“It was conceived to offer several basic functionalities in one product, without the arrogance of a modularity,” explains Lesur, who, after graduating from Boulle school in Paris in 2002 then working for Innovath√®que and CentDegr√©s, began working for Patrick Jouin as a freelance designer in 2007.

“Mister T is neither a coffee table, nor a chair, nor a footrest, but a little of each.”

Oxyo claims that it “edits objects for the modern lifestyle” and proposed a new vision of comfort – something that would be stylish, flexible and suitable for the modern lifestyle.

They partnered with five up-and-coming designers to “meet the challenge of awakening the power of daily pleasure” and design its first collection with Made in Design.

A single unit that separates into four pieces – basket, tray and two cushions – Mister T can be modified to different variations to suit individual changing requirements in any room in the home. The motivation behind it was to decompartmentalise spaces, whether public or private, home or office, inside or out.

Mister T measures 60 x 40 x 30 centimetres. The basket and the tray are manufactured from ash plywood with a matte varnish finish.

The colouring of each unit is unique as slight variations in the hue occur due to the nature of the timber. The cushions are made from a steelcut trio fabric (Kvadrat) and the tray is coated in moulded white ABS (satin finish).
