The Float Base Station is designed to be airdropped into a disaster zone to assist in restoring communication to an area in need of assistance, and in remote areas when communication networks and infrastructure has been destroyed.

As a concept, it is proposed that once the base station lands, it can be easily unpacked to release a balloon bundled inside. The balloon inflates and floats, carrying a receiver with it so that signals can be received and transmitted.

The balloon is designed to catch the wind and rotate. It is proposed that induction coils in the station could be used to assist in the generation of electrical power.

The award-winning Float Base Station was designed by Huang Hsin Ya and Huang Pin Chen.
