Registration for the category ‘Architecture and Urban Design’ is open until 6 February 2013 and red dot is calling for real estate developers and architects to apply in this category for the red dot: product design award.
The red dot is recognised worldwide as a seal for aesthetic forms, sustainable trends and responsible creative talents. In 2012, more than 15 000 red dot participations from 70 countries entered.
“The winning works are always seen as a quality standard for good design,” says award-winning architect and interior designer from Hong Kong, Steve Leung. “Not just for design professionals or others involved in the industry but also for the public at large – and that is the most important aspect.”
But it’s not just the big names in the industry that take home awards. Participants are able to impress the international red dot jury with sustainable concepts, smart materials and elegant details. The sincerity behind the designs to achieve new, lucid and coherent architecture – regardless of whether the work involves trend-setting interior design, a residential or a commercial building – is what attracts attention.
Renowned architects Ben van Berkel and Hadi Teherani were part of the 2012 red dot jury and who selected the entries in the category ‘Architecture and Urban Design’. German architect Jürgen Mayer H. was distinguished by them for his outstanding design of the Metropol Parasol and received the red dot: best of the best – the highest accolade in the completion.
The higher the award, the easier it is for architects and design offices to position themselves in the market. “The red dot is simply an excellent, very transparent and appropriate concept for choosing quality,” explains Teherani.
This year’s ceremony for the awards will be held in 1 July at Aalto-Theater in Essen, Germany, and the red dot: best of the best will be awarded by Prof Dr Peter Zec and the jury members. A special exhibition of winning entries will be displayed in the red dot design museum following the awards night. Entries are closing soon.
